La Diáspora Festival in SF

 —  —

Impact Hub San Francisco, 1885 Mission St, San Francisco

La Diáspora Festival is an exploration of the intersections of Latin American communities living in the United States. More about the project below. This particular event is a One-day Cultural Festival showcasing different art disciplines with the same unifying question WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE PART OF LA DIÁSPORA?

We will have four stages: six hours of music, performances, visual art, decolonized food, amazing drinks, and community. Come and explore your own journey with us, and celebrate with the power of arts, culture, and community! We encourage you to dress the part!!!

You will also be supporting our journey to raise funds to take 20 artists from SF and the Bay Area to Puebla, Mexico, in November of 2019, to create diplomatic bridges with our cultural roots, in a time of walls and division.

In the last few years, we’ve developed an awareness that words like Hispanic, Latino, Latinx, etc. in the United States are nothing more than made-up labels that oversimplify our identities, our intersections, and our history as a continent. A history that is inextricably linked to colonization and oppression, but also with resistance, ancient traditions and everything in between.

This is a social experiment that seeks to honor our shared journey through the exploration of all our intersections, which is why we seek to create an inclusive platform with artists who identify as Indigenous, Afro-Latinx, and LGBTQ, among many others, and we invite a diversity of voices to be present. YOURS INCLUDED.

Join us this September 28, at the Impact Hub SF, where we will be showcasing the work of participating artists and others who wish to contribute and participate with La Diáspora Festival locally along with everyone who cannot join us in Mexico due to documentation-related, financial, or professional reasons, we want to hold space for everyone, and we need you there.
