Global Village, Jean Paul Gaultier live @ de Young Museum

The de Young Museum, 50 Hagiwara Tea Garden Drive, San Francisco, California

 Friday August 10th
La Gente
will be performing @
The de Young Museum
as part of the "Global Village" Performance series
in conjunction with The current "Jean Paul Gaultier" exhibit

"Global Village"
Global Village is a multi-disciplinary music and dance performance piece that will take place on August 10th
at The de Young Museum in conjunction with the Jean Paul Gaultier exhibit curated by Rafael Sarria &
La Gente Productionz. For over thirty five years Jean Paul Gaultier has created an artistic legacy that
deconstructs our preconceptions of identity and culture as well as abrasively juxtaposing contradictory
and complimentary visions of beauty and absurdity. In these performances we will attempt to reflect this
vision using sound and motion.

In the same way that Jean Paul Gaultier has fused aspects of older classic fashion sensibilities with
modern, urban and street styles, we will utilize classic forms of music and dance and marry them to
modern innovative genres. We will focus on music and dance as poignant tools to highlight the cultural
diversity of Gaultier's influences and contrasting cultural identities. We also plan to feature Bay Area
artistic movements that subvert traditional forms of dance and music in order to attack our narrow
definitions of gender, constantly reinventing our masculine and feminine roles.

This collaboration will feature members of La Gente, Dholrhythms Dance Company, Sascha Jacobsen
& Trio Garufa, Raw-G, Nicole Klaymoon's The Embodiment Project, DJ Lady Ryan, and La Mixta Criolla.
They will be performing everything from Reggae to Bhangra to Cumbia to Tango to Hip-Hop, to modern
dance, to Soul and Electronic compositions

This event will be part of the Friday Nights at the de Young from 6:00-8:45pm and is FREEE!!!
